gallery neptune & brown is pleased to present an exhibition featuring paintings by artist Stephen Estrada. From turbulent swells to serene sunsets, Estrada captures humanity's mystifying relationship to the sea. The artist has been painting oceans for twelve years and never ceases to be enchanted by their power and beauty.

The artist’s work focuses on the human connection to the natural world. He uses large canvases for his seascapes to communicate the ocean’s overwhelming presence. Through years of volunteering in hurricane relief efforts as well as participating in water sports such as surfing and swimming, Estrada is drawn to the ocean as a place of solace, excitement, danger, and belonging. At once, the water can be destructive and astoundingly beautiful. The artist invites the viewer to stand in awe of these natural phenomena. He asks us to find peace in the unpredictability of the waves. Oscillating between exacting and impressionistic, Estrada’s brush gestures to the drama of the sea, using rich colors that reflect its shimmering complexity. Estrada describes the paintings as “a tangible reminder of the slender place we occupy at the edge of the elements.”
