gallery neptune & brown is pleased to announce the opening of LADIES FIRST, a group exhibition of outstanding professional women working today in various media.

The exhibition will include works by Carol Barsha, Raya Bodnarchuk, Cianne Fragione, Emily Francisco, Janis Goodman, Tazuko Ichikawa, Linn Meyers, and Beverly Ress. Each artist works steadily and consistently in the studio producing deeply personal, innovative, and meticulous work. This exhibition is a combination of many discussions on art history, studio visits, and various explorations into the creative mind and process. There will be a wealth of talent, emotion, and beauty in this exhibition, featuring both figurative and abstract imagery. These artists studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, Boston University, Maryland Institute College of Art, UC Davis, UC Berkeley, Queens College, Webster, Keio University (Tokyo), Cooper Union, and DC's own Corcoran College of Art and Design and American University.

National statistics on artists reveal that men are featured in solo exhibitions three times more often in New York galleries. Less than a third of museum exhibitions focus on women, and so we thought it was time to celebrate women working today in the tri-state area. They are often unsung heroes in the art world-- maintaining full time jobs, raising families, inspiring thousands of younger artists while working tirelessly, driven by their creative spirit.
