Meet & Greet with the artist on March 12th, 2022 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM

gallery neptune & brown is pleased to present Cianne Fragione’s third solo exhibition with the gallery. In her mixed-media paintings, completed over the last two years, Fragione has worked exclusively from her studio. These conditions brought about new associations among her heritage, dance, music, poetry, and artistic practice.

Fragione’s studio, much like her work, is a sensorial feast. There are collections of Italian lace, marble altars, vintage photos, and trinkets amongst the pigments, brushes, and palettes. Music is a constant companion; in particular, a live recording of Paolo Buonvino’s Taranta Reimagined. These precious items in her studio are foundational elements of her process - tactile aspects in her space allow for deep introspection.

Her compositions explore the history of family, culture, and artistic mediums. Fragione builds texture and then works to reveal layers recalling ruins and antiquities. Her gestural brushstrokes reveal the artist's background as a dancer. Dancing has informed her practice as an artist – disciplined and focused on rhythm and pattern. Pigments are employed like motifs in an orchestral arrangement, to create a unique visual and poetic vocabulary. One significant motif in this group of paintings is the color blue. For Fragione, the blue pigments represent glimmers of hope amidst hardship, like the moment when clouds clear to reveal the blue sky beyond. Mark-making reveals itself as an essential feature of her work. While words and figures evoke poetic associations, lines appear like memories of the landscape, music, and movement that have influenced Fragione throughout her career.

Songs From My Home will be on view at the gallery from March 12th through April 23rd, 2022. For further information please contact Chris Neptune at chris@neptunefineart.com or call 202.986.1200. There will be a Meet & Greet with the artist on March 12th, 2022 from 4 – 6 pm.
