gallery neptune & brown is pleased to present EQUILIBRIUM, our first solo exhibition with American painter Mark Dassoulas.

Inspired by endless curiosity, past decisions, and future possibilities, Mark Dassoulas creates mystical opalescent paintings that explore tonal shapes, pure form, line, and depth.

Pursuing optical complexity, Dassoulas paints compositions composed of multiple transparent layers meticulously applied over time. This contemplative process provides a performative element to his craft, resulting in polished and detailed pieces that invite viewers to take a deeper look.

Drawing from the tradition of 20th-century colorfield painters such as Mark Rothko, as well as the Dutch master, Johannes Vermeer, Dassoulas transforms abstraction into something distinctly his own—creating paintings that gleam like liquid light.

Mark Dassoulas was born and raised in Washington, DC. The son of a physicist and a piano teacher, he unites his work with scientific precision and musical lyricism. Dassoulas has been exhibiting his work in the United States since 1980 and his work is collected nationally. He received his BA from the University of Maryland.
